COMMUNITY PERCEPTION OF EARLY MARRIAGE DONE BY UNDER 18 YEARS OLD WOMEN IN PUSKESMAS MARGA I TERRITORY, TABANAN IN NOVEMBER TO DECEMBER 2007

One sixth people on earth from one milyard humans are teenagers. Eighty five percents lives in developing countries. A lot of teenagers are sexually active, instead it wasn’t always a choice for them, and half of those teenagers have married. Sexuality placed teenagers in risky challenge with numerous reproductive health problems. Fifteen millions 15-19 years old teenagers have given birth, four millions did abortion, and almost 100 millions infected by STDs. Globally, 40 % of HIV cases infected young people at age 15-19 years old.

This research is a qualitative descriptive study done by in depth interview and Focus Group Discussion. This research was done to explore community perceptions of early marriage in under 18 years old women in Puskesmas Marga I territory. Informans of this research were four under 18 years old pregnant and married women, five elderly people, and ten high school students in Puskesmas Marga I territory.

We concluded that early marriage of under 18 years old women in Puskesmas Marga I territory were influenced by sex education, tradition, sosioeconomic status, media, and family, school and community environment.
